Shelters and Death – The Plight of many Animals
Shelter fate is but a small slice of what dogs face in our world today and an even smaller slice of what is happening with animals all over the world. If you can, open your heart as you watch the videos. Allow your heart to feel – it may change your life

Until recently I myself did not really feelingly know how bad it actually is…and that there are things you can do. 4-5 million dogs and cats get killed each year in shelters in the USA alone, and more are abused neglected and killed of which we don’t hear.
Some statistics that bring the problem into focus in a hurry…
- 50,000 puppies and kittens are born each day in the U.S
- A ratio of 1 pet with a home to 4 who are abandoned, abused, neglected, homeless
- 1 female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years
- 1 female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 pups in 6 years
- Only abut 19% of owned dogs and 22% of cats were obtained from a shelter or rescue
- 50% of dogs in shelters were brought in as strays without any identification and only 15% of these will be reunited with their families
Public shelters have to take all animals in, often to kill them within a couple of days for the main reason: no space. It is a total illusion to bring you animal there thinking “the shelter” will find a good home for him or her.
Rescues are organizations that pull animals from shelters. Some have facilities, others work only through foster homes. No-kill shelters takes in animals but don’t kill – they really need your help.
Here is an example of a rescue organization.
Please spay & neuter your dog and cat, don’t let your hamster, rabbit or guinea-pig have babies, support to regulate breeders and abolish puppy mills, support tougher laws on animal abuse and teach our children empathy fro all living things and raise them with a sense compassion and empowerment to cause change.
Socialize your dog properly.
What you can do: volunteer, network, transport, donate, foster, adopt, sponsor, educate, do a fund raiser and …open your heart as you watch the videos and read the posts in “The Situation”.
And it does not stop with dogs and cats. If you are ready for it, please a a few minuted about the truth of what you find in the supermarket to eat for you and your family

Thank you in the name of all animals everywhere to take a step to be more aware.
From a Puppy
I died today. You got tired of me and took me to the shelter. They were overcrowded and I drew an unlucky number. I am in a black plastic bag in a landfill now. Some other puppy will get the barely used leash you left. My collar was dirty and too small, but the lady took it off before she sent me to the Rainbow Bridge . Would I still be at home if I hadn’t chewed your shoe? I didn’t know what it was, but it was leather, and it was on the floor. I was just playing. You forgot to get puppy toys. Would I still be at home if I had been housebroken? Rubbing my nose in what I did only made me ashamed that I had to go at all. There are books and obedience teachers that would have taught you how to teach me to go to the door. Would I still be at home if I hadn’t brought fleas into the house? Without anti-flea medicine, I couldn’t get them off of me after you left me in the yard for days. Would I still be at home if I hadn’t barked? I was only saying, “I’m scared, I’m lonely, I’m here, I’m here! I want to be your best friend.” Would I still be at home if I had made you happy? Hitting me didn’t make me learn how. Would I still be at home if you had taken the time to care for me and to teach manners to me? You didn’t pay attention to me after the first week or so, but I spent all my time waiting for you to love me. I died today. Love, Your Puppy
